1976 Presidential election

Only one candidate, Dr Patrick Hillery of Spanish Point, Milltown Malbay, County Clare, was nominated at the presidential election following the resignation of President Cearbhall Ó Dálaigh on 22 October 1976.  Dr Hillery was, accordingly, declared elected, and was inaugurated as President on 3 December 1976.
